Monique Smith is a 19 year old American-Canadian citizen who grew up in Tacoma, Washington, studied in Australia for a semester and backpacked throughout Guatemala for two months. She is a second year university student at Thompson Rivers University. She plans to study abroad in Italy for a year starting September 2007 to further her education in international studies. hello all of you beautiful people!
I just found out about you guys and wanted to congratulate the great work and your collective dedication about social issues and building better communities!
Some of us down in Vernon ( yep we’re neighboors!!) have initiated an action campaign aiming at taking action on climate change and promoting sustainable communities. We’re gonna cycle from Nelson to Victoria starting June 30th, with a visit to Kamloops ON JULY 12TH. We wish to organize community events along the way in the likes of gathering in a park, putlock, and maybe a bike parade and are inviting everyone to join us with their bikes for one kilometers or the whole 1000!!!!

We are totally grassroots, I am a single mom with 3 kids and our children are coming with us. We need all the support we can get and it is getting very late regarding the organizing of the Kamloops event; i am so swamped and time keeps running!!!
I will have a booth at the Energy Fair on the 27th; but I feel I need to find my key contact people in Kamloops before hand. I’m hoping to find a collective of about 6-8 people who would help us with the logistics of an event. That event can be as big as the energy and inspiration that the community is willing to put in or just a simple welcoming announcement as we pass throught and having people cycle with us; escorting us throught town. We will need a place to sleep; if some group wants to lend us their hall or we can pay for camping.
But our goal is to involved as many people as possible, including mayor, council members and politicians. There is a lot of people and energy being put in this province-wide event and we are wanting to present ourselves with efficiency and professionalism yet we are grassroots. So it’s all about the people and our communities. It would be great if someone would call me. here’s my number 250-558-0994 I’m sure that if you are too busy with helping me, you may know of others who are green minded that might be interested in helping me.

I will be in Kamloops for 3 days (leaving tomorrow) and would love to see some eco-friendly buildings or sites, and maybe see some live music, eat some clean green foods. I have found a few larger LEED certified green buildings on line to visit but hope there are some funkier, smaller scaled, more home-built examples. Are there any cob or straw bale construction in Kamloops? Any co-housing? Any green roofs?
Thanks so much for any help you can give. I usually feel quite dispirited when I visit Kamloops so I hope to see some hopeful things there this time.

Hi Folks,
I just wanted to let you know that after eight years in the germination process, the little book and CD “One Seed” is being re-issued in full colour and in pocket book size. It is also now available in French (Une Petite Graine) and in Persian.
The launch is taking place in Grand Forks this coming Saturday, March 13.
It is hoped to have the book available in other languages, like German and Spanish, possibly by the end of this year.
So here’s to sowing seeds!
And I hope you don’t mind, I used your wonderful comment about the book on the back cover – about how it reminds us that the courage of one has deep and far-reaching impact.
